          Collingwood, Cuthbert, Baron Collingwood (1748-1810)

          This distinguished naval officer was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He had a long career in the British Royal Navy which he joined in 1761, being twelve years old.

          He took part in three key battles during the wars of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire (1793-1815): the ‘Glorious First of June’ (1794), Cape St Vincent (1797) and Trafalgar (1805).
